Round 5 at Thruxton
Was held in mixed conditions with Friday free practice being dry but slightly windy, Kieron was upbeat after his recent test at Cadwell where Alan & him found a decent base setting.
Straight away Kieron set a good time so was buzzing and couldn't wait for qualifying.
Saturday morning bought the rain which stopped about half an hour before qualifying so we took the gamble & Kieron went out on race tyres & not wets like half of the field did,Kieron did his normal 2 lap warm up then with his first flying lap took 2 seconds off his practice time! Kieron did a couple of more laps at the same pace & this put him 1st in the cup & 8th on the provisional grid then it rained then in the last few seconds Kieron got bumped down to 2nd by only 0.03,
Saturday Race 1
With the earlier rain gone it was ideal conditions for the race, Kieron had secured his best grid position on the 3rd row from which he got a good start & by lap 3 he had gone faster than he had qualified & was running in a comfortable 4th in the cup and 9th on track which he held till around lap 6 & when he came past us on the pit wall the bike sounded different & looked visibly slower by lap 7 Kieron had dropped to 13 on track & 5th in the cup which he held till the end of the race.
After the race they dyno'd the bike 4 times as the hotter it got the more power it lost, it had lost nearly 10 bhp.
Tony lent us a spare engine for the rest of the meeting & good old Al had the old one out & the new fitted & running in just over 3 hours, not bad eh.
Sunday morning warm up
The weather was again sunny but slightly colder for morning warm up & as well as the engine change we changed the gearing & Al tweaked the suspension this was a good move as yet again Kieron went faster & Kieron couldn't wait for race 2.
Race 2 Sunday
Kieron didn't get the best of starts but going in to turn 1 he grabbed 3 places & got himself up to 10th on track & 4th in the cup, by lap 3 Kieron set his fastest lap of the whole weekend with a low 1;21 over the next couple of laps he progressed up to 8th on track & 2nd in the cup but on the following lap he got bumped off track by an over enthusiastic rider & re-joined in 12th.On lap 9 Kieron had regained his previous position but the race was red flagged due to a crash so as it goes in that situation they go back a lap and Kieron was credited with a 4th in the cup, he was not impressed.
Yet again Kieron has got faster & thanks to the test Al & Kieron did at Cadwell they both have a real good understanding of the bike & a decent base setting, roll on Cadwell.
