Some 18 months since ordering our Vanquish V8 it is now at 2WheelsMiklos after its trip from the manufacturer (Mike Kelly) in Marco Island, Florida USA. It was shipped from Miami to Felixtowe via Antwerp and after clearing customs and paying duty it was brought by van to the shop on 27 July. We are currently commissioning it – it runs like the proverbial freight train and with a mighty roar – and preparing it for its MSVA (Single Vehicle Authorisation).
This is an impressive package: Engine – all aluminium (by Dart) 427 cubic inch (7,000cc) carburetted V8 Power – 600 bhp (dyno tested) Weight – 1,150 lbs (520 Kg) Length – 120 inches Fuel capacity – 8 US gallons (30 litres) Rear suspension – air Paint – Frame pearl gunmetal grey and bodywork silver with red, white and green graphics – colours all specified by 2WheelsMiklos Performance – up there with a Hayabusa (or more if you can hang on!)
The challenges for the MSVA will be principally noise (we are making baffled tail pipes with Super Trapp ends to ensure conformity), emissions (under 4.5% CO) and a few safety oriented issues. We are aiming to take it for the test (in Watford) just after our 20 August Open Day. We are planning to be riding it before the end of the season.
We have ordered a special (long and heavy duty) workshop table which we will be using to service the Vanquish and of course have available for work on other ‘oversize’ machines.
